Our History

Haworth Castings is an aluminium and copper based castings foundry and machining centre located in Romsey and Basingstoke, Hampshire. The business is led by Lachlan Buirds, who took over as Managing Director from Andrew Haworth in June 2019.

We specialise in producing fully machined, tested and finished sand castings and gravity die castings to the defence, aviation, marine, medical, energy, automotive and safety-critical industries, providing a fully owned and controlled single-source solution for our customers.

Origins

Alan Haworth first started the company in London in the 1950s, with a small team of six staff. The company transferred to the Isle of Wight before relocating to Romsey in 1967. Graham Haworth took over the business in 1969 and during this period he initiated the launch of Inidam – a non-destructive test and inspection facility – and also led the purchase of R E Cross, a machining company in Basingstoke.

Growing the business

Andrew Haworth joined the family business in 1988, becoming Managing Director in 2005. Andrew oversaw the acquisition of two companies – Wessex Castings and Chiltern Castings – with staff from the respective businesses transferring to Romsey.

These acquisitions have enabled the business to grow its skills base, expand the company and continue to deliver the highest-quality service that customers expect.

In October 2017 Haworth Castings was acquired by Expromet Technologies Group, a privately owned foundry group that also owns Investacast, a leading investment casting business based in Ilfracombe, Devon, and Metaltech Precision, a leading manufacturer of CNC machined components for a wide range of demanding industries based in Chard, Somerset.

In days gone by, customers would often have their own in-house paint shop or machining units but today are now looking for a one-stop-shop solution – fully machined and treated castings. Expromet harnesses the capabilities of a group of complementary advanced precision casting and machining businesses to deliver world class engineering solutions to its customers on a global basis.
