About the Role

As a Fettling Operator, you will be responsible for cleaning, finishing, and preparing aluminium and other metal components for further processing or final assembly. This role is key to ensuring Haworth Castings’ high-quality standards are met before products progress to machining, assembly, or shipment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Surface Preparation: Remove burrs, weld spatter, gates, risers, and rough edges from cast or machined parts using hand tools, pneumatic equipment, grinders, sanders, files, and chisels.
  • Tool Operation: Safely operate hand and power tools, including angle grinders, orbital sanders, and saws.
  • Quality Control: Inspect components visually and dimensionally to ensure compliance with engineering drawings and quality specifications.
  • Process Support: Work closely with welding, machining, and fabrication teams, preparing materials and performing rework where required.
  • Record Keeping: Complete job cards, track cycle times, and report non-conformances accurately.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area, strictly following health and safety procedures.

 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in fettling, grinding, or metal finishing within a manufacturing or foundry environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • High attention to detail with strong manual dexterity.
  • Familiarity with MRP systems (e.g., EFACS) advantageous.
  • Physical stamina for manual work and prolonged standing.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety practices and correct PPE usage.

 

Working Hours & Overtime

  • Monday to Friday: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Overtime available based on business demand, with enhanced pay rates: 1.5x on Saturdays.

 

Salary & Benefits

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £13.00-£14.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
