We are excited to share the latest addition to our machining capabilities in the form of a 5-Axis Yamazaki Mazak Vertical Machining Centre.
It has 5-axis, which refers to the number of directions in which the cutting tool and component can move, providing infinite possibilities as to the parts we can now machine.
On a 5-axis machining centre, the cutting tool moves across the X, Y and Z linear axes as well as rotating on the A and B axes moving in 4 dimensions enabling it to approach the workpiece from any direction, processing 5 sides of a part in a single set up. This enables us to produce machined components in an extremely efficient way, reducing the time it takes us and therefore reducing the cost to our customers.
Vertical machining, also known as milling, relies on rotary cutters to remove metal from a workpiece. Vertical machining occurs on a vertical machining center (VMC), which employs a spindle with a vertical orientation. With a vertically oriented spindle, tools stick straight down from the tool holder, and often cut across the top of a workpiece.
