We invest in new state-of-the-art machine shop

Published - 2nd Jun 2015

Machining has always been an integral part of Haworth Castings’ end-to-end service to its customers and remains a key part of our future growth strategy. Last year we took the decision to upgrade our machine shop and at the beginning of May 2015 moved into larger, state-of-the-art premises on the Chineham Business Park in Basingstoke. At the same time we took the opportunity to upgrade several of our computer numerical control (CNC) machines and have also invested in two of the latest vertical and horizontal machining centres.

As stated by our managing director, Andrew Haworth: “Haworth Castings has always prided itself on providing a true single-source casting, finishing and machining solution for its customers. Our decision to invest in a new and expanded machine shop in Basingstoke reflects our commitment to this strategy, keeps us at the cutting-edge of machining technology and provides the additional capacity the business needs to accommodate future growth.”

The new machine shop is able to accommodate all key machining requirements – namely turning, milling and drilling and additional operations such as shaping, boring, sawing and broaching – and includes the following heavy duty machine centres.

  • Doosan MYNX 7500 Vertical: This mid-to-large sized vertical high-durability, high-performance machining centre enables powerful cutting and high-speed precision machining.
  • Doosan PUMA VT900M Vertical: Doosan’s Puma vertical turning lathes are designed for their long-term accuracy and heavy-duty cutting capabilities.
  • Mazak VTC 300c Vertical: This vertical traveling column (VTC) 300C Vertical Machining Centre features a powerful 40 taper spindle, full traveling column design and fixed table for machining of extremely long and heavy work pieces.
  • Mazak NEXUS HCN 5000-2 Horizontal: The HCN 5000-II can shorten cutting time by minimizing non-cutting time in multi-kind small or medium quantity production utilizing up-to-date tools and ultra-high speed technologies.
