In shot blasting and peening stainless steel shots are propelled at high speed at the surface of the casting to create a uniform finish.
In shot blasting, the casting is placed on a spinning wheel in an enclosed cabinet. Spherical metal shots are propelled at high speed at the surface of the casting. Shot peening is a similar, gentler process that uses finer ball bearings to avoid cracks on the surface.
Shot blasting and peening are applied to aluminium castings to give the casting a uniform appearance and remove any sand or small burrs. It also provides a uniform finish which provides a good key prior to painting, powder coating, anodising or machining.
